Why Participate?Dwight had a rare and aggressive form of cancer known as soft tissue sarcoma. He was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 37 and after two heroic years of fighting the disease, it took his life. After Dwight's passing, his family and friends organized the Dwight Reed Memorial Golf Outing. The proceeds from the initial events where used to fulfill his wish of funding college educations for his two children. Most recently, the proceeds have been used to advance cancer research in hopes of discovering new treatments and cures. This year, we will donate all proceeds in Dwight's memory to the Van Andel Institute (VAI) in support of their cutting-edge sarcoma research to identify factors that cause sarcoma and develop new methods for its treatment. Last year's event raised over $20,000 for VAI's cancer research. The Van Andel Research Institute is an independent, world-class medical research facility that has gained worldwide recognition for research into the genetic and molecular origins of cancer and other diseases. VAI's laboratories and core facilities work to translate discoveries into therapies that will one day conquer illness and enhance lives.
