Dwight was raised in Clinton, Maryland, a member of a large and loving family. He was baby brother to Debbie, Donna, David and Diane and big brother to Dawn and Dwayne. Dwight always marveled at the outstanding job his mom, Jean, did in making sure all needs were met and all felt loved. He was involved in athletics from an early age and his dad, Wayne, was one of his biggest fans. Dwight was gifted at any sport he chose to play. Perhaps this is why the game of golf frustrated him so when he took it up in his late 20s. But he loved the game and was committed to it. And over the years, he became a damn fine golfer.

Dwight met his wife, Michelle, while attending Shepherd College. They married in August of 1986 and had two children Jessica (born in 1987) and Matt (born in 1991). Dwight received his degree in accounting from Shepherd College in 1989 (carrying a full course load for 3 semesters and holding down a full time job). He was a dedicated and valued employee throughout his career and at the time of his death, was a senior systems integrator in corporate finance at the Lockheed Martin Corporation; a job he loved.

Dwight was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He had a great sense of humor and was a terrific storyteller. He loved spending time and laughing with Jessica and Matt. Dwight touched us with his humor, courage, faith, and love. He was committed to living each day to its fullest and, even during his struggle with cancer, saw the beauty in each and every day. Dwight continues to remind each of us to be grateful for our most precious gift – life.

The Dwight Reed Memorial Golf Outing is organized each year by his family and friends. It’s our way of remembering Dwight and keeping his spirit alive.

We think he would love that.
